Why do I call it intelligent? Because it engages my brain in a way that other dance music does not. Other dance music is more about engaging the body. This is no value judgement, it is a statement of perceived function. If I call Bill Gates intelligent, am I calling other men unintelligent? Please, why would anyone think that calling this music "Intelligent Dance Music" makes all other dance music unintelligent? Calling attention to one feature of the music does not mean this feature is completely lacking in other music. If I call a music "Painfully Loud Noise Music", am I saying that the listeners are painfully loud? Why do some people think that "Intelligent Dance Music" assigns the label intelligent to the listeners as well? It's a mystery to me. During my hellish experience in the highly tribalized American public school system, I became painfully aware that most people are extremely insecure about their own intelligence (or lack thereof), and jealous of those that are more intelligent. This is manifested in a variety of negative behaviors, from social shunning to physical violence. In this environment, intelligent is a dirty word. I see the perception of the word intelligent as being negative or pretentious to be yet another example of this insecurity. There's nothing wrong with the word intelligent. Be highly suspicious of anyone who says there is. Che
