piece designed to be played on 100 cash registers

anti-dj'ing tool customised by us with stickers, screwdrivers & glue,
produced by todd a.carter, combining samples of his jazz musician
father (carter) and great uncle, german composer, max (reger)

todd is sample player in chicago's electro-acoustic ensemble tv
pow as well as a member of storks international,  an artistic-
political movement designed to combat  banality as terror.

previous recordings include ground zero's consume remix project
(ameboic), lucky kitchen's 'imaginary video games' cd and
chicago's lumptronic II compilation.

on june 24th last year, commercial station FORTH FM (97.6) was
blanked out for most of the day in the area of edinburgh by an
anarchic crew of pirate radio jammers, through a 3rd party, (as
the instigators still face a prison sentance if captured), we got
hold of the tapes and now present this slice of real life culture-
jamming, hacked up chart action / dj speak juxtaposed with
signal decay, cheapo fried electronics and freakin live-on air
fx manipulation

lee), reich, quenevau, burroughs, picasso, stravinsky, tzara
(drop the t folks) provides an indicator to the parallel universe
these franco-philes inhabit, a scuzzed, rotting ballet-mechanique,
where the death rattle of electronika takes place, chaotic, vauge
and inexact, lo-fi aesthetic fights a private war against electro,
noise and hip hop, tense sci-fi samples (orson welles circa1938,
hale-bopp / heavens gate) add to the sense of future-collapse,
frranck emerge battle scarred, mutilated but ultimately victorious,
think i-f minus the kraftwerk homage complex in a 3 way
conferance call with q-bert and the dead c.

young farmers claim culture - not a festshrift CD

now there is an argument that the only way for 'alternative' culture to
compete with 'bourgious' culture is to produce art as attractive or
as aesthetically pleasing to the spectator as the average soap
powder ad, and with the digital means of production, in both sound
recording and print /multi-media fields becoming ever more within
the fiscal grasp of ever the most frugal on-the fringes label, there is
no longer the need to be stuck in the late 70's cut n paste black and
white zerox ghetto, outsider music need no longer 'look' outside,
labels such as sabotage are exploiting this with their range of perfumes
and fashion wear and that is only to be applauded in my opinion

young farmers claim culture house their multimedia cross-platform
experiance (music - art - toys) in a tastefully minimilistic sleeve
(think designers republic minus the fussy typefaces), claiming to be
neither musicians, artists or scientists, but instead producing a sort
of 'digitallia muzaka' by fooling around with the  latest software that
falls into their laps. (my cd-r is busted at this point, so any analysis
on the cd-r portion will have to wait for another day)

these digital harvesters hardwire the cold european sensibilites
of hutter & crew with rhymic disfunction of autechre into a sort of
pan-global cyber-funk,  for man & machine, clean and processed,
very tighly structured with any apparent  randomness 'controlled',
crystal clear sonic defination containing no blurring around the
edges or haze which makes one feel they are entering into the
"unknown", tho the imaginative use of the human voice (or it's
processed  pc equivilant), spliced , run backwards, serperated
in the sound spectrum etc., provides a psychedelic edge, a
sort of aural hypnosis is induced, much in the same way a
traditional hypnotist will work i.e. confusing the subject by
issuing a conflicting string of commands then when the
subject cannot comprehend striking with the real command
or suggestion. maybe then we will discover the real message
behind this release?

klangwart offer a different approach on the same theme, building
from gentle electro-acoustic probing via manipulation of attack
and  timbre to use of volume in extremes, from focused and meditive
