For looks I'd go with the panels just slightly recessed from the front edge of the case with the knobs protruding. However, one my customers way back suggested that we start using the 'Oakley Lip'. This system had the panels recessed far enough back so the knobs would not protrude beyond the front of the case. The reason for this was to allow the modular to fall flat on its front without damage to the pots. MOTM and Oakley modules at the time used the old Spectrol pots and if you push hard on the control knobs the backs of the pots would pop out and they'd be permanently damaged. Why Oakley Lip? Because my 2 x 16U fully stacked Oakley/MOTM modular was pushed over by my three old daughter while it was outside having its picture taken for my website. The Oakley Lip would have probably saved it. That said, what I do now is make sure the modular is at least 250mm deep so it won't fall over - even if said child tries to push it over. Actually, said child is now all grown up but prefers Kontakt and Diva to real analogue. Tony www.oakleysound.com
