have any of you idmers out there seen a magazine called sound collector ? I was looking through my copy today and it has a really cool autechre interview where they tell how they modified there sk1 and they go on about the gescom minidisc, here is an excerpt: (the interview was done on the phone with sean booth.) minidiscs "were actually gonna release a minidisc only release. and its gonna be like 250 tracks, It'll be out on touch. I think minidiscs are alright, but they're like the new cassetes almost, except I prefer the sound of a cassete to the sound of a minidisc. the sound quality's not particularly brilliant, it's got quite a restrictive bandwidth, everything sounds really compressed, it's a bit like an akai sampler they're all a bit to clean, where your supposed to get exactly the same thing you put in but you don't, at least not to your ear or not to your brain, but don't get me wrong I love digital technology, 'cause for manipulation of data it's brilliant, But I think for storage of data it's fuckin' useless" it's one of the better autechre interviews I have read and it goes on a lot about old skool hip-hop and there early stuff. the magazine also has a really fun mouse on mars and third eye foundation(way to long though:) interview and and the usual hipster-indie luminaries like , low mogwai JOE MEEK flaming lips experiment helium will oldham lonesome organist guitar wolf and a lot more it also has a really cool collage of rare coum transmissions (throbbing gristle before they were TG.)photos and text.I think it's email is xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx
