If you're looking for the 'Mealtime' CD in the Los Angeles area, Rhino on Westwood had two copies as of this afternoon. They also have the As One CD on Mo'Wax and the new Global Communication single, which I haven't seen at Arons etc. Speaking of which, are there any decent shops I should know about in LA? I've tried all the ones listed in the Rotator Locator at Hyperreal except the ones in Costa Mesa, and my experience on the phone with those two ("4 Hero? Is that house?") doesn't make me anxious to schlep down there. Voting in the '97 poll is going well, with about 60 ballots received so far. the ballot repost follows for anyone who missed it the first time. Am I the only one who thinks that 'Endlessnessism' or whatever it's called on Dot is already practically a shoo-in for Comp of the Year '98? Off-topic: if anyone happened to record the Leon Parker performance from the Knitting Factory, broadcast this past weekend on Branford Marsalis's NPR jazz program, email me privately, please! I find the list reponse to the Arcon 2 album interesting - people criticized Photek's album for having three previously released tracks, but nobody's mentioned that Leon has at least five or six single tracks on his album. As for the music itself, I like a lot of it, but I liked a lot of it better the first time, when it was called 'The Self Evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind' - like the less jazzy parts of Amon Tobin's 'Bricolage,' Leon Mar gets a lot of mileage out of sounds that T Power left behind two years ago. Finally, I haven't seen much in the way of comments or descriptions of the Horn's 'Hornography' album on ULP. What should I expect if I order it?
