I agree. (burp_) ...with Sean about Pooky-Spoo's doing more of a disservice than were he... just hanging ...out.... on this... list? Erm... hmm. A lot of non-avant dj's out there could do what he is doing in a more interesting way, but dj's with an ear to avant-stuff tend to not bother prostheletizing (sp?) the masses. Experimental music and representation is generally unrewarding; DJ spooky is going for the art gallery perks or sound kinda mass media profile. He just ain't that sharp and wouldn't survive a minute outside the mass media based on his cds. Madly backspinning dance music is something done by working dj's in the eleventh hour or when they find themselves mixing for only their friends. I give more credit to the public schoolteacher that tries to even introduce his/her students to 20th century avant-garde art (or the history of painting for that matter). Bluff bluff, blow my house down. )hiccup) now espousing... In the history of IDM-Listserv, the music has gotten more difficult-minded and noisy and the conversations have gotten more simple-minded and fluffy. DJ Spooky's cds might be good stuff for easing ones' pals into the distant universe of experimental music (or at least make them feel comfortably 'exposed'), but we should not still be bothering ourselves with the topic of such avant-middlemen on this list, imo, else we'll find ourselves scaring off the poor Autechre-s who've 'been there, done that'. Wouldn't listees rather bother these folks in person than discuss Doritos new 'avant'-flavor puffs? (burp_) I considered editting myself and not posting this, but I realized a lot of the list's old-timers' not posting their own jaded opinionated ponderings are what keeps this list out of balance sometimes.
