You can simply try different chips and see how you like them. I have fooled a= round with the same idea but found I often don't like the sound of new op am= ps in a circuit specifically designed for an old one. Also the linearity and slew rates of new op amps can be impressively epic bu= t not so "nice" for audio. Now I am a little more cynical so I will tend to replace 741's with 741's an= d 311's with 311's , et C.
