Since in my previous post I was asking about Chillout recommendations, I thought I'd give back to the list with a recommendation of my own (in case you haven't already heard it): JOHN ADAMS - HOODOO ZEPHYR - ELEKTRA NONESUCH, 1993 Believe it or not, this 1993 album was my introduction to the world of IDM. I've never seen it mentioned on this list -- are you all familiar with it? You might recognize Adams's name as the famous modern composer of the "Nixon in China" opera, "Harmonium" cantata, etc. Yep, he's done electronic IDM, too. Hoodoo Zephyr has a distinct southwestern feel to it -- as distinct, in many ways, as the KLF Chillout has a "pastureland" feel to it. Adams is a native of California, and many of the tracks on this disc sound like the California desert, but maybe a hundred years in the future. Amazing, beautiful music set to a poem (?) by Adams. Such as "Coast" (track 1): Come on my skateboard, my possible vehicle, my holy roller, Coast the Western edge, the Great Valley Sequence, The plug-dome, upwarp, continental drift. (etc..) And my favorite, "Cerulean" (track 6): Cerulean wavestation Doing a slow dance: A light, late-afternoon shower of Pulse and pattern. Blues and purples. Low frequency oscillators Make my Magic Fingers mattress Hum beneath bandwidth bed. (etc..) Check it out if you haven't already heard Hoodoo Zephyr! Find it in the classical music section of your favorite music store. :) Peace, Jeff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
