Fellow idmers this is a desperate attempt, but I'll try it. A friend of mine is organizing events during the Locarno Film Festival (4-14 August), the smallest of the big european film festivals after Cannes, Venice and Berlin. BUT: two of the acts he was booking did not confirm. SO: he is looking for bands that do trip hop, d'n'b, "acid jazz" etc LIVE. He's got the djs already, he needs bands. Being picky wouldn't sound natural in this situation of course, but there are a few conditions he set: 1) no all electronic bands, bowing over their equipment (that's why I will not play there, I'll probably dj) 2) possibly no live drums :-) (which in a sense counterbalances a bit the first condition) 3) audio of some kind should be made available asap in order to decide: sending a cd, a tape or even better a video tape of a gig would do, if possible (the festival starts in 12 days), but also links to real audio online or stuff to download (even though mp3s would take too long here in europe to dl) are to be considered, due to the short amount of time. One thing I can say: he likes Herbaliser, and some of the acts he booked in the last years were people from Irma Records, Italy, and english label Pork (who should be there this year too afaik). PLUS POINTS: the festival is in southern switzerland, in a beautiful town on the lake where you can go bathing etc. The place is really crowded with people from all over europe during the festival, quite a few ahem "media types", journos etc. The festival in itself is a great one. Movies from morning til late night, and especially interesting some first eureopean showings of movies (I remember them doing Face Off by J.Woo, or the restored and original version of "Last Tango in Paris" with Bertolucci himself introducing the movie to 7000 people in the square... ok I'm waxing lyrical now...:-) This year it will be italian movies, but the festival will also show asian, latin american and possibly african movies (haven't seen the program yet). The events for which the bands are needed will take place in the OFF festival, that will host underground movies, djs, live bands, exotic food and drink etc in a place a few yards from the main square. Open til 3-4 am. The budget will make it quite hard for people from over the pond coming here, unless they are already on a trip. I guess people from Central Europe would apply more "fluidly" :-) So Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland but in fact all of Western Europe if they feel like making the trip. Not much time left See ya nd One last plus point: in switzerland ganja is quite common and can be found in some small shops at fair-ish price, all legal (that is until you blow it).
