After sensing the deep disappointment _Budakhan Mindphone_ seems to have given most of the listeners on this list I jus' figured I'd devote my 2 cents worth ('cos I can). Perhaps ya'll aren't giving it a fair shake. "Iambic 5 Poetry" is obviously the most immediately impressive track on the disc, but the others have their hidden qualities. I don't believe that they are all castaway fluff (well, maybe "Two Bass Hit"). In fact, "Fly Street" and "The Tide" seem to share quite a bit with _Dark Magus_-era Miles. Minus the buzzing guitars, but certainly the same open-flowing textures. In many ways, they remind of his Spymania work. The off-kilter beats, stuttering bass, and snatches of melody; "Fly Street" may take a while to get going, but it definitely settles into its own groove. For all of the flak _Music Is Rotted One Note_ took as too jazz fusion-esque or too far removed from his past product, I fail to really see that in _Budakhan Mindphone_. It seems far more electronically grounded (obvious Miles Davis references aside). There are even little isolationist asides! Perhaps that's just the sound and not the real content. Or perhaps I've taken too much time off of your hands. I apologize. But this list accomplished part of its goals in convincing me to give _Budakhan_ a couple more listens and it paid off. Perhaps this letter will do the same for you. J np: uhh ... _Budakhan Mindphone_ would you believe? ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
