Rolled down to the troubadour tonight with the one and only fresh to see Lexaunculpt (aka alex) play live. I won't review any of the other bands because there are people on this list who also performed that can't take a bit criticism. Nuff said on that one... As always, I really enjoyed hearing alex's music loud. He played a bunch of old tunes, but many mashed up in new directions. Also included were his metroid remix 'shamus, a nasty remix of nwa's 'fuck the police' and one toon that was brand new. One of the interesting things about his set was he ran the buzzword list from s + r's infamous 'IDM - don't even go there' post thru a text2speech program and mixed it into his set, fucking it up with mad DSP the whole time. Made for some excellent transitions between songs. A nice touch and quite ironic as it was the same venue that we'd seen autechre previously. After the show, many 'industry' type people (the trub IS an 'industry' hangout) trying to suck up to alex and the words I heard coming out of some 'hipsters' mouths made me laugh. One guy said that he was good friends with the rephlex crew and that lex should 'give them his music so he can sell a million copies'! :-) Also some schmuck asked him if 'he'd like to hear his music played on the radio' and then asked if he'd ever heard of KCRW. I guess the guy'd never heard of KUCI, since they've been playing Lexauncuplt/Hazel Window stuff for ages and alex has done so many live sets down there I doubt he can even remember how many... Oh well, all you can do is laugh at people like that. Overall, an extremely strange night but fun none the less! word out, brock
