>>Are these Street Sounds (Electro, Best of...) and Mastersounds comps.
released on vinyl as well? <<

The Best of Street Sounds and MasterCUTs were on vinyl but are probably out
of print. The Mastercuts back catalogue went onto low price a few months
back so you should pick them up for about £7 easily (in the UK). I've no
idea whether or not the Streetsounds one is a mix or not, as the original
series was.

Tracklisting for best of is:

Rockers Revenge - Walking on Sunshine
Peech Boys - Don't Make Me Wait
Grandmaster and Melle Mel - White Lines
Man Parrish - Hip Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)
Herbie Hancock - Rockit
Tyrone Brunson - The Smurf
COD - In The Bottle
Newtrament - London Bridge is Falling Down
Hashim - Al Naafiysh (The Soul)
Whodini - Magic's Wand
Timezone - The Wildstyle [this isn't the Francois Kevorkian 12" remix
version]
Grandmaster Flash... - The Adventures of...

Pretty essential stuff that could set you back a set of limbs these days!
There was only one volume of this, but the two volumes of Classic Hip Hop
were in a similar vein - one of them has Mantronix' "King of the Beats" on
it which is one of the most mackingest tracks ever!

Some more goodies worth trying:

Street Jams Electric Funk Volumes 1-4 on Rhino (there is a box set now that
goes for about $40) - CD only and you'll duplicate most of the above stuff
plus get stuff from Twilight 22, Bambaataa, Shannon, Cybotron, Freestyle,
Newcleus, DSt, Reggie Griffin, Egyptian Lover, Wreckin Cru etc. File under
PFG...

Two Dave Clarke X-Mix Electro Boogie LPs (anybody know anything about a
double CD version?) - not totally vintage but cool nonetheless...

Deep Beats Electro 1 and 2 - two low price UK CDs, file under M for
mackadocious... A few rare remixes on these and plenty of cool stuff - Xena,
Shannon, Man Parrish, G Force, Rockers Revenge (Sunshine Partytime Rap),
Melle Mel and Duke Bootee, COD (Uphill), The Beat Boys etc.

Kraftwerk have most stuff still available. There is a best of Newcleus
album (CD only). The Hashim stuff is still in print on Cutting and was
reissued on cd by Network and they should have their online ordering sorted
out (not too sure of URL - may be www.cutting.com?) There is a best of Man
Parrish CD, or Hip Hop Be Bop LP is available on CD with extra tracks.
Loads of Flash and the 5 rereleases at super cutdown bargain prices. Run
DMC vinyl the first 10 12"s are available in a box set (CD Now has it on
special at $32 and you've got the untraceable Live at the Funhouse 12" in
there so a cool bargain). Most of Tommy Boy's back cat is available so
that's stuff like Soul Sonic Force. There's also been a rerelease of the
Double Dee and Steinski lessons on one 12" on Tommy Boy and the Planet
Patrol singles were definitely available on cd at least. I've just picked
up a rerelease on Warlock of T La Rock's "Its Yours" (not the Scratch Party
Death Mix though) backed by Awesome Foursome's "Funky Soul Makossa".

Digging in the Crates: Profile Rap Classics - Run DMC, Word of Mouth,
Jeckyll and Hyde, Rammellzee vs K Rob (Beat Bop - one of the best rap
records ever! When we were kids we used to hate this with a vengeance!),
Pumpkin etc.

IT1 Electro compilation - may be CD only? some old classics by Craig Payton,
Project Future, Knights of the Turntable, Grandmaster Flash, Fantasy 3 meet
some new classics by Plastikman and a bunch of others. Warning: the ending
of Scorpio is faded out, but its the only place I know you can find it (some
wise-ass will tell me its on Best of Grandmaster Flash vol 6 hopefully).

Crooning on Venus 3: Electroids on Pluto - 2 x CD only? Haven't got this
one but it had a bunch of good stuff on it.

I see the original Electro LPs around a fair old bit, usually priced at
about £5-10, though some places sell them for £20+ so if anybody's after any
drop me a mail with the ones you want and I'll keep an eye out. After about
the first 12 the quality starts to decline a bit.

I've a page on electro rereleases on CD at
http://freespace.virgin.net/david.hampson/electrcd.htm which has cat numbers
for anyone interested in ordering.

Sorry if its a bit long but some of you should find this partially useful!
