I'm sure (hoping) there > are many Here in the UK, John Peel (famous, justified and ancient old DJ with regular sessions on national radio featuring lesser known and less commercial music - until he plays it) has a scheme for describing live performance to include idm type bands. He describes performances as 'live' or 'live live', or 'live live live'. To give you an idea, he described Plaid as just live, Autechre as live live and Plone as live live live (in that they plinkety plonk on their old analogues). It is not a meritocratic scheme but a descriptive one. Should you give a fuck. I guess Orbital would be live live as they remix tracks live as they have a studio set up on stage. I personally find Autechre the most interesting live act as it can often be many minutes into a track before a recognisable semblance of a studio track reveals itself (if at all) and they are always different every time - you never know what you're going to get each time you see them (even within weeks). But Orbital are still hard to beat given the combination of visuals and live mixing. Underworld are live but again the visuals are great and I suppose there are live vocals. Well, there's a few well known names to start you off with. Cheers, Jonny
