it may not be to everybody's taste, but you don't hear many guitar solos
on detroit records (especially ones that are treated and looped and
such). hence "experimental." you might say "uncommon" doesn't
necessarily equal experimental but that's an semantic argument more than
enything else.

when i said this was an experimental record, i was referring to songs
like "wonderful life" and "home entertainment" - both of which explore
fairly new terrain in terms of tempo, song structure, and ambience.
three or four songs (e.g. einbahn, they were) are terrible but i've
always
though 1/2 of it is genius.

if you listen to landcruising next to, oh i dunno, animals on wheels or
mu-ziq, you might find landcruising pretty staid and conventional. but
if you put it on after listening to stuff like "evolution" or "desire"
or "galaxy" you'd hear the experimentalism right there.

all people usually expect from detroit artists (sadly) is a little bit
of funk, some strings, a nice housey beat, maybe some breaks, and sci-fi
imagery. the psyche, 69 ,and paperclip have this in spades, but there's
isn't much of that on landcruising.

it's possible to dislike landcruising for purely musical reasons. but
i'm not suggesting that to do so equals some sort of deficient
appreciation for the experimental.

of course, experimentalism for its own sake hardly equals good music
("drill'n'bass")  it's important to arrive at a balance -> a balance
that i for one hear in landcruising.

that's it.
