For audio, high end is Pro Tools (www.digidesign.com)

If you're looking for a MIDI/Audio sequencer, try any of:

Digital Performer (www.motu.com)
Studio Vision (www.opcode.com)
Logic (www.emagic.de)
Cugase (www.steinberg.de)

For dedicated audio editor:

Peak (www.bias-inc.com)
Spark (http://www.tcworks.de)

You should also look into softsynths, like Rebirth, Reaktor,
Generator, Transformator, Unity, etc.

There is much more, of course, but these are a good starting point.
