To me, it's not a genre anymore, and I can't think of anywhere that sees
it as one apart from maybe some record stores who have fun fitting all
the records into sections. And none around here do that with IDM, though
it'd be useful in some respects. Certainly it's not really used to
describe a type of music any more, IMO.

Right now we've got conversations going on about hip-hop (ISP, Co-Flow,
Dr Octagon), clubby techno (Lance's excellent reviews and associated
talk about Morgan Geist etc), Dot stuff, and many many more. Just lurk a
little longer and you'll soon see what everyone is listening to. I don't
think there's that much of a consensus about what is good at the moment,
you'll just have to decide for yourself and listen to some of it.

What do you mean "I hope not"? I think you want IDM to be all the music
that you like! Well, that's cool, I think you've answered your own
question. IDM is all the music that you like. It's also all the music
that I like. Welcome to the real world... :-)

Okay, you want names, I don't mind doing my list, but bear in mind it
hasn't really got anything to do with IDM anymore, it's just stuff I
like right now:

Amon Tobin, DJ Suv, Robert Wyatt, Plaid, Optical, Company Flow, DJ
Krust, The Fall, Stereolab, Dillinja, Photek, Ashley Beedle, Gerd, Luke
Vibert, Mampi Swift, DJ Vadim, Renegade Hardware to name but a few.

Me neither from the traditional end of IDM (which I take to be the older
Artificial Intelligence era Warp stuff and related), mainly because not
that much of it is being made. The music has moved on and so has the
list because it's all about good new music which is doing something that
we haven't quite heard done the same before. We keep listening until we
get bored. We all get bored at different rates 'cos we all listen to
different amounts of music or have different tolerances and needs from
the music. Or am I wrong?
