<< Music is what these music lists are for, not for discussion of social, ethical, theoretical issues - just music. Just think how knowledgible we would all be if we all taked about nothing but music! >> Lance (on the one hand) has a very valid point...we've all been prattling on a bit too much off-topic recently...the off-topic meter has been rising to record levels, and I'm as guilty as anybody. Some ideas: - there might not be a need to include the entire list in an esoteric off-topic debate, so consider e-mailing privately off-list if you're totally off-topic (but consider a "cc" for others who contributed to the thread) - if you must post totally off-topic, at least include an "np" statement so that there is some shred of musical content in your post (even if your np is "paint drying on wall") The other hand: it's hard to separate music from politics, social theory, aesthetic debate...but (a third hand) I also like the idea of appreciating some kind of *pure* music without getting bogged down by all the other baggage of being a human being. Grammar: while i've definitely gotten cheesed-off by bewildering grammar/syntax in IDM posts in the past, I've learned to dig the more off-beat phraseology over time. There's no need to belabor the fact that some people express themselves differently... I feel like we drove that *cat* with the really outrageous syntax off the list (example: grooooovy cack like digginthis polebrokenfiltery-crackle-ass shite in the wanderingdown wussus peace brokenfreeekbeats, so I jet and head bigpants), and now I kinda miss him. - Fred Church xxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xxx np: bran flakes, "let us praise him children"
