it's nice to see music other than autechre and imitators discussed
around here. for a minute it felt like 93-94, when every post was about
aphex twin... and imitators.

i have to agree that glo-com have the magic touch. about these:

the "deep space" mixes were almost all excellent. dave angel, howie b,
and the j-k's all turned in wicked mixes, i remember ranking them at the
top of my list for that year. the jedi knight mix starts and ends with
scratches by daddy addy (of plaid fame) and builds up into the best
electro tracks they've _ever_ done. the 303 work is unreal.

>New York Connection - Bless The Funk EP EVO063 (Evolution) - Push is 9

the guy's saying (!) "bless the funk", hence the title. i can tell that
you (and most of the people on this list) aren't a house fan, but those
into quality deep house or lush detroit will love these. either of these
records could have come out on guidance, prescription, balance, relief,
cajual, etc...

>got it on a single CD along w/ some remixes by some House dudes. Begins

this is one of my top 5 house tracks, _by anyone_ . the key is how they
slowly, word-by-word, bring in the vocal hook "i love the way you make
me feel" fucking genius. and after they've brought in the whole verse,
they crop those deep, solina-esque strings.

>Reload - Archive 12" EVO036 (Evolution) - 3 tracks - Soaring 7:43, 6-8
>Rhodes 5:37, 4-4 rhodes 4:50. I haven't heard it.

i think this is just one of them. (the one who wasn't in aphex twin?)
it's wicked. soaring is a minimal, detroity track with very lush chords.
the rhodes tracks feature the same break (once in 6-8, the other time in
4-4, i presume) with more chords and (obviously) a rhodes. one song
segues into the other. it's a brilliant record that fans of the as
one/teebrooke/op-art sound will really like, i think.

>Trivia Q Answer: Evolution Records was named after the Carl Craig track
>Evolution. Apparently Mark's a big fan.

it shows. i always hold out for a stronger house/detroit presence on
idm, but alas it is not to be. for the open minded, it's not much of a
leap from this kind of stuff to deep house and detroit.

it always seems that house and detroit are the one influence of idm
artists that "the kids" can't get with. i wonder why?

a friend of mine defines idm as "techno with all the house taken out of
it" anyone agree?
