World Standard | "Country Gazette" | Asphodel
Haruomi Hosono (of YMO fame) and Sohichiro Suzuki along with Larry Campbell
and Mina Hosono explore uncharted territory as World Standard in "Country
Gazette", of collection heavy hearted electronic campfire songs. Soft and
worldly, World Standard de construct classic American folk music to create a
narrative for the modern day explorer, throwing the listener somewhere between
the middle of nowhere, looney tunes, and Lego-land. Dualing banjos sing bitter
sweet lullibies while sampled sounds and synthesizers manipulate and pixelate,
painting a landscape of pearlescent clouds and towering mesas.
Ideal for lonely cowboys or cowgirls, "Country Gazzette" is an album that
combines the bitter sweet existential sounds of the old west and the ambient
electronics reminescent of KLF's Chill Out Album (minus the cheez).
