dunno if this would be more appropriate on ambient, but someone asked
about this yesterday, soooooooooo:

noto: [titled by a symbol representing infinity] (rastermusic
cdr008/noton 06)

Only one word can describe this disc: sound. Yes, sound. Behind
all music, there is sound. Noto (carsten nicolai) brings us (yes) 72
[untitled] tracks, 68 minutes of sound. Some of these sounds arranged in
a musical format, some just there. The sounds themselves all appear to
be derived from everyday sounds, or attempting to imitate everyday
sounds. A telephone is noticable, a deep vocal hum, etc. Some are also
short and simple little melodies. Two of the tracks actually manage to
break 6 minutes (tracks 1 and 6) but, not surprisingly, these are little
more than short sounds looped, and both would have been much nicer had
they been cut down to the 5-40 second time of most of the other tracks.
Despite this album obviously being a 'background' recording, having
little or no listening value unless you're actually doing something (like
writing a review), Noto still manages to bring us sound at it's best.
Not really idm, probably more IBS (intelligent background sound), but it
is still a worthwhile release.

also, today i finally picked up the merzebow remixes with autechre and
panasonic Erm i was expecting maybe noisy idm, but i got idm-y noise.
the ae mix is ok, but everything else is just noise, which isn't really
my liking.

np: noto on shuffle.
yes it does sound quite cool.
