hmm. not sure that someone who "never liked the trumpet" is in much of a
position to say what direction jazz was "meant to go." after all, if
louis armstrong hadn't put glorified bugle to mouth 3/4 of a century
ago, jazz quite possibly would have never gone anywhere. not to mention
the non-cloying, un-nasal music miles davis, dizzy gillespie, lee
morgan, don cherry, jon hassell, wadada leo smith, kenny wheeler, dave
douglas and a host of others have created on the instrument since then.
and oh yeah -- i think ben neill is swell.
