recent odds'n'ends....

questions??
- animals on wheels - anyone know if the cooked 12" tracks are on the new
"designs.." cd?
- apart from "avit" ep any other appearances from paddington breaks?
- also mould. (try doing a web search, sheesh)?
eating words
- apologies to value ape, who's "old school knee clicker" only scored a tie
in my review. nice, nice drumming has grown on me in leaps and bounds.
politeness in raucus company is its only crime. the action replay clearly
shows the ball was over the line.

i should quote the "modus operandi - i feel cheated..." post from
yesterday(?), but won't at the mo' due to IP headaches. but there was
something in the photek interview in raygun that's been praying on me of
late. where rupert talks about trying to adapt to an lp format, making
something more durable by removing anything that gets annoying on repeated
listening. he then says he's listened to it 500 times. all very admirable
in intent, but after having got to about 20 listens myself before realising
there won't be a 21st, i have two thoughts.
1. it would have been nice to be able to enjoy it before 500 listenings
too.
2. with such rigorous quality control, some of those sinister atmospheric
synth touches, sounded dated after about 5 plays.
ah well. maybe next time he'll just treat an lp like a 12" w/ more tracks.

('pologies if not idm enuff) got the adrian sherwood/on-u sound dub remix
of the primal scream lp - "echo dek". nice, tho' totally impractical,
cardboard + rubber packaging, and had sleeve ripping (i don't think peanut
butter would have worked in this context) erroneous sticker claiming
chemical brothers + original versh of "higher than the sun" - not true its
"medication" sounding like joy div(??) anyone now what's up w/ this?. this
has a 1 or 2 plodders on, and is relatively short, but the good bits are
very disorienting indeedy. even bobby's dope(y) lyrics and singing manage
not to get on my tits in this context. "star" in particular is augustus
pablo melodica driven, spine chilling dub heaven. a big improvement on the
original "vanishing point" lp, and the best thing both sherwood and the
scream have done for ages. also tls stuka rmx is a 1 killa/1 filla
proposition, i'll take the one w/out the (vocodered) vocals.

the knights who say not >
sorry in advance for this probably unpopular opinion. but this is like high
tech prog rock. luckily in this decade vocals are out, so we don't have to
put up w/ hobbit lyrics again. its like the anti-sq*p*r (i know this is a
good thing to some). instead of taking cheesy hippy fusion noise and
beating hell out of it w/ a manaical punk-like glee, they take the most
modern cool sounds, and then just let them meander about in a pleasant
fashion. i now have a distinct picture of two dutch 70's longhairs w/
headbands calling each other "friend" in my head. and its not funny.
