I am particularly fond of Tom Johnson's _Voice of New Music_, a collection of his writings for the Village Voice from '72 to '82. Heavy coverage of minimalism and other branches of NY experimental stuff. Now out of print on Het Apollohuis (RIP?), but maybe available from your well-stocked museum bookstore. _Sound by Artists_ is edited/written by Lander/Lexier and put out by the Walter Philips Gallery. I've been looking for this for a while, actually. If you want to get beyond secondary sources, there's this fascinating book of interviews with Xenakis by Balint Andras Varga (no diacriticals available in ASCII, sorry). Published by Faber and Faber in England. I can't imagine a discussion of this kind of thing without mentioning John Cage, who has written numerous books about (and "about") the subject. Start w/ _Silence_. -rob
