Yeah, I think I made an OK deal. Why did I want an AN1x? Well, all my analog gear (Korg Polysix, Yamaha CS20m, Akai VX600...) is temporarily in the possession of my brother since I thought I won't have time nor space for them for a while due to various reasons such as becoming a father last June. However, I noticed I'd still really like to groove with some synth, but I kinda promised my brother he gets to maintain possession of my analog gear for a while. So I decided finally to give VA a change. Cheap VA :) The AN1x was my dream synth when I was a teenager (when the AN1x was new), but I could only afford a Yamaha CS1x and then later bought the Polysix etc. Anyways, now I finally thought I have a good excuse to get my teenage dream synth. I can't really yet tell how good it is, I need to play it more. The very first impression was that it sounds quite digital and similar to the CS1x, but I quickly noticed this was due to many of the user patches using quite a bit of the built-in effects, you know, in the style of using a single oscillator with the chorus effect instead of two detuned oscillators etc. Luckily the synth has a "disable all effects" global setting. After restoring the factory patches and making a couple of my own patches, the sound doesn't seem half bad. Also the oscillators seem to be free running and not doing anything stupid like restarting on every note. The sound engine is quite limited. In a way this can be refreshing also, you know, not half of the features hidden behind ten layers of menus, but some of the limitations are annoying. Like not being able to apply a proper ADSR envelope on the pitch of the oscillators etc. One further reason why I wanted to try a VA synth is to get a set of features that would be very expensive with the real deal. To be honest, the AN1x seems to have the same level of versatility as my Akai VX600. Well, at least I don't have to wait for half an hour before the AN1x is in tune :) The Ion is another story, always seemed like one of the more interesting VAs, but this post is long enough already :) Cheers, Antti ma 27. elok. 2018 klo 22.51 Steven Clements (xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx) kirjoitt= i: > > on an added note... > I run Parallels Desktop on my OSx machine so I can use the AN1x editor li= brarian > http://www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk/Downloads/AN1xEdit.zip > > https://www.parallels.com/ca/landingpage/pd/general/?gclid=3DEAIaIQobChMI= zpjj4P-N3QIVhtdkCh0GPAf7EAAYASAAEgKo9PD_BwE > > I've not tried WineBottler - but apparently it works and is free > http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ > > > > > Steven > > > On Mon, Aug 27, 2018 at 1:43 PM Steven Clements <xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx> wr= ote: >> >> These are pretty fantastic synths...
