I can't recommend these highly enough. A long overdue review was supposed to come from me but the description below sums it up quite well. Don't hesitate... [copied from AtlantisRecords weekly mailer]: Obliq Recordings Multicast - S/T (Obliq OBQ-EP 1)(#'d/500) US 12" $6.99 V/A - Obliq Recordings (Multicast, Freq, Ted Sturgeon...)(Obliq OBQ001.3)(#'d/1000) US CD $11.99 Two very strong releases from Obliq. Multicast create moody electronic listening music. "Hall of Inverted Mushrooms" lies somewhere in between early Warp AI with the lyrical quality of David Morley/Andrea Parker's finest moments.from their Angular Art EP. "Balleric" mixes modest guitar lines going through a bit of delay with a bit of synth arpeggios and drum machine beats. The "glitch mix" of "Foehn" form Accelera Deck is a Skam/Mas-esque excursion with a bit of scratching dropped over minimal synth melodies with obligatory AE nods in the rhythm and noise dept. Nothing entirely new or groundbreaking on this remix, but does stand up well with anything else similar these days. "Firn" is built on a noisy loop that builds slightly and is somewhat tweaked now and then ending in a lockgroove. Look out for the upcoming Multicast 10" with an m-tec remix (Pitchcadet). The Obliq Recordings CD features tracks from Multicast (including "Hall of..."), Freq (A modern tribute to Schnitzler's "Con/Ballet Statique" LP?), Ted Sturgeon (Brilliant but loose electronic rendition of Napoleon XIV - "They're Coming To Take Me Away"), Finder and Aquatic Ape.
