Hey Bay Area folks- THURSDAY 16 SEPTEMBER, 9:00 PM JUSTICE LEAGUE, SAN FRANCISCO 628 Divisadero Street near Fell $8 A NIGHT OF AURAL-VISUAL CULTURE JAMMING presented by BLASTHAUS ELECTRO MEKANIK v.4.0 People Like Us / The Jet Black Hair People / Wobbly (trio) Thomas Dimuzio / George Prepared (duo) Phosphene + guests Wet Gate This show marks the Bay Area return of People Like Us, aka Vicki Bennett, the mad sampling maven from Britain whose new CD, "Hate People Like Us", comprises remixes of her work by folks such as Coil, Death in June, Negativland, Stock, Hausen and Walkman and many more. Some of you may have seen the excellent Bay Guardian article on her in August. If not, it's online at: http://www.sfbg.com/AandE/33/45/voicings.html People Like Us will collaborate with The Jet Black Hair People aka Peter Conheim (Wet Gate, Mono Pause, Negativland) and equally deranged sampling cypher Wobbly. The trio have a brand-new CD out from Belgium's Audioview label, PEOPLE LIKE US MEET THE JET BLACK HAIR PEOPLE...IN CONCERT! (with Wobbly guesting on two tracks), which will be available for sale at the show. San Francisco's Thomas Dimuzio, fresh from his stellar collaborations with Chris Cutler and Fred Frith, performs with Wet Gate crony George Prepared in a 16mm-sampler duet. And Vancouver's Phosphene opens the show with a surround-image installation/ performance using multiple 16mm projectors and synthesized sound, assisted by Wet Gate. Phosphene is the project of Alex MacKenzie, who is the guiding light behind B.C.'s Blinding Light Cinema. This should be excellent! This trio performed on my radio show and it was nuts, jaw-dropping stuff. Drew
