One of the reasons that I like the Metric Halo Labs MIO Console is that =
you can name the inputs and then build a custom mixer. There=E2=80=99s =
no need for routing, per se, because you simply don=E2=80=99t create =
mixer strips for unused channels. You can leave everything plugged in =
permanently, provided that you have enough channels. You can also drag =
the mixer channels around to change the order so that the grouping makes =
more sense for a given project. You can then save everything in a file =
or even a template for future projects along the same lines.

As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, once you have the ability =
to customize, save, and then recall these complex setups, it becomes =
very powerful.

My only problem is that I sometimes tear a third of the system out and =
move it to a portable rack, so my older saved files no longer correspond =
to reality. They=E2=80=99re easy enough to edit if I don=E2=80=99t want =
to connect everything up the same way again.

Another minor issue is that the various preamp expansion is not always =
of identical quality, so I have to think about which instruments go on =
the best preamps, and so on.

channels, considering a lot of machines have multiple outputs..
