i'll preface this by saying i went to the record store today
(looking for the new autechre, of which the last copy had been snatched
up - feh!) and bought a bunch of stuff i'd never heard, just for the
hell of it. not all of it turned out to be very idm-ish, but i thought
i'd review it anyway, just for the heck of it. More to come. The best
so far is the Saucer 12".

 artist : mono blanco
 title : peak/rock the house
 label : sm:)e
 cat : sm-9073-0
 format : green 10"

 summary : house-ish good stuff

the a-side is 'peak', which has pretty straightforward beats and breaks,
with a nice accent of 303 and other squelchy sounds, as well as various
samples thrown in. undoubtedly a good dancefloor track, but usually
not my idea of 'listening' music. something i might put on to clean
 the house to.

the b-side is 'rock the house', which is a big junglier, but has some
nice distorted fun thrown in, guitar-like things, piano... overall,
quite nice. once again, not generally my thing, but definitely good
 in a certain mood.

 artist : saucer
 title : wurmtrip/dreizehn
 label : karaoke kalk
 cat : karaoke kalk 3
 format : 12"

summary : dark drum and bass much to my liking

 a: wurmtrip

drum minus the bass, with an ethereal whine throughout... which is to
say, I can't really do this justice with a description.

 b: dreizehn

this is so textured, i really enjoyed it. quite dark, really, though
not without a few really lovely washes. a sinister air, and it only
gets more dense and darker as it goes on. by far my favourite of the
 two tracks.

 artist : steve tang
 title : windy city/devout/cadence
 label : emphasis
 cat : emphasis001
 format : 12" vinyl

 summary : nothing new here

 windy city:

this does, indeed, sound... well, windy. nice winds. slight melody
to go with the drums. kinda minimal. not much to say.

 devout:

more drums, more melody. nothing that strikes me.

 cadence:

by far the most interesting track on the 12, though i have to say,
 not by a lot.

 artist : freaky chakra
 title : year2000
 label : astralwerks
 cat : asw6288
 format : 12"

summary : 3 tracks on the lp? huh. i wish i had realized this. :)

 year 2000:

i already liked this track. kinda warped beaty thing, with some weird
vocals. makes me think of a drunken soundtrack to a new years party.
i think the sample is from total recall, anyone know?

 dreams:

 also good. also already liked.

 platform:

 also good. already liked.

year2000 (love from san francisco mix):

 a more housey mix. feh.

ok, now i'm dog tired so i'll sleep.

 *zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*
