hey all just thought I'd post mini reviews of some stuff I haven't heard too much about: Jochem Paap : VRS-MBNT-PCS 95981 Mr. Speedy J returns after a longer than desired absence with a killer dark ambient record. I was expecting this release to be similar to Public Energy, but was not dissappointed at all that it wasn't. Completely beatless, this is in the same vein as SAW II. I hightly recommend this to any late night ambient fans out there. Slow and evolving, it's not as repetitive as SAW II. Perhaps more akin to the GC/Pollutia material. We: Square Root of Negative One A nice variation on the techstep dnb scene. A little more conventional sounding than I was expecting (read all the breaks sound more similar to each other) as compared to their first record, but still there's plenty of experimenting going on here. Its records like these that remind me you can still work within an established aesthetic and still sound unique. Sun Electric: Via Nostra A somewhat surprising change of style for SE. Still lush, this release has a laid back quirky jazzy feeling to it. I definitely would not call it acid jazz or trip hop, as their aren't really any obvious break samples, yet this release is perhaps the least 'techno' I have heard SE be. It has a nice ecclecticism to it I can only compare to the Reflection release on Clear. It all makes from some serious electronic eazy listening... more to come! peace Nate
