if "sophistication and human element..." is just IDMspeak for "near-complete 
lack of originality and obvious desire to duplicate exactly every move 
autechre ever made," you just might be right.

don't get me wrong, the guy's got skills; i just wonder if he has an 
imagination.  i have this feeling that ten years from now all of the socal 
crew will be saying something along the lines of, "oh, man - the _new_ stuff 
alex is working on (i mean the stuff that will be on the 6th album, on warp, 
not the other 5 albums or 9 12"s) is just amazing - totally original, _this_ 
is the shit."
