} What, these artists need to project what's on their monitor just to make
} sure you don't feel ripped off? I might be bringing a bit too
} much from the
} rave mentality, but is a live performance just to hear your favorite
} performer fuck up trying to recreate what they did in the studio, or is it
} to share the experience of hearing their work with a bunch of people who
} share your tastes in an interesting setting with (usually) a much much
} louder sound system than you have at home?
} Why does it matter whether that was actually Richard D James here
} in Denver,
} and whether he was actually DOING anything while he was laying behind his
} laptop while those three guys in big fluffy costumes bounced around? The
} crowd was loving it, I was laughing my ass off at how he was thumbing his
} nose to everybody, and the music itself was really cool.
} Damn, I got sucked in, too.

to further that point, why should it matter if the artist is even present?
fsol took this step with their isdn broadcasts. also, recently i've seen
some raves listed that feature the typical djs and what-not, but some
sections of the rave are listed as having live broadcasts (audio+video i'm
assuming) from big name artists like grooverider, hawtin , etc. cheating? i
guess it all depends on your desires when going out to see a "live"
performance. one thing i know for sure is that as bandwidth and processing
speed keeps increasing, this practice will become more common and the
division line in this area will become even blurrier...
