This wasn't as interesting as I hoped. Just like the "X-Pressions" album, this seems to lack a certain "umph" and experimentalism that I've heard in releases by ISP, Cut Chemist, Faust, Disk and countless others. I think Swift et. al are trying to turn the turntable into a "legitimate" instrument like a guitar or keyboard as opposed to exploring its inherently unique and noisy qualities. To do that, you need great compositions (as opposed to concepts). The x-ecution ain't there (groan). "Something Different" is pretty nifty as it comes across like a DJ Vadim track with banging piano chords, a sparse beat and scratching. Better luck next time. BTW, the release date is something in February.
