"Sonic Acts" and "Sonic Images" at the Harvard Film Archives 7/17 @ 8:00 ======================================================================== (I) "Sonic Acts: From Stockhausen to Squarepusher" US/Netherlands, 1998 (60 mins) By means of interviews, music clips and archive footage, Sonic Acts gives an impression of developments and the current state of affairs in electronic music. The film explores the crossover between so called "serious" and "popular" sides of electronic music as well as the inherent conflicts of such a phenomenon. Pioneers of electronic music such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage talk about their conceptions of electronic music while the youngest musicians in the field, Merzbow and DJ Spooky among them, also share their reflections. (II) "Sonic Images" (62 min) A project of five short experimental films. Represented are five sound and image collaborations between international musicians/composers and directors.
