Well folks, i could probably go on and on about the "Remixes," "Influences," and "Classics" release on Warp/Matador, but for now i'll spurt some of the highlights on here.. The "Remixes" (10+3) are probably the best of the lot. Stand out tracks so far would be Isan's remix of Seefeel, Stereolabs' remake of BoC's "Kid For Today," and many more. The "Influences" takes Steve Beckett's and Rob Mitchell's influential tracks that sparked them to start Warp Records back in 89. Highlighting some great Detroit and Chicago fav's, Model 500, Rhythim Is Rhythim, and gathering some of the purest techno tunes of that era: A Guy Called Gerald's "Voodoo Ray," Phuture's "Acid Tracks," and 808 States' "Let Yourself Go," to name a few. And with Warp's selection on "Classics," there are many Nightmares On Wax tracks that ring a nostalgic bell, "Dextrous," "Aftermath," "I'm For Real," and "Case of Funk." And an old favorite of mine licensed with Tommy Boy back in '94, LFO's "LFO," "Track 4," and "Probe" sound as graceful and exciting as the day they were released. And the collaboration track with F.U.S.E., "Loop (Fuse Mix)" is another one that makes me want to pull out some of the 12"s buried in the Plus8 bin. All in all, Warp (& Matador) have unleashed (or will be unleashing October 12th) a great combination of tracks that will have you searching for the records they originally came from (i am). I'm happy with the remixes.. it's not too often you hear Oval remixing Squarepusher, Push Button Object's doing BoC, or Richard Devine doing Aphex Twin, so these are well worth the purchase..nice artwork too, of course Pietro. _____________________________________ Pietro Da Sacco, m b m @ n e t c o r e . c a ::: Grooves Magazine 002 ::: ::: Experimental Electronica in Words ::: http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ ::: Insound.com Zinestand ::: http://www.insound.com/zinestand/grooves/
