I'm curious if anyone caught this show this past weekend at Carnegie Mellon. In particular Chris Graves' performance. He was kind enough to send me a promo of his newest full length release a little while back and I was quite impressed. It contains some very complex programming yet does not really delve at all into any Ae derivative territory; the beats get crunchy at times yet Chris manages to use really unique sounds that don't sound abrasive or dry and overdone. In fact there is a certain playfulness on the release that reminds me of Plaid or Steve Pickton stuff, or perhaps the Orb at times; y'know kind of funky stuff that doesn't take itself too seriously. There seems to be these light hearted melodies floating in and out of every track. I say this is a welcome addition to the 'hyperprogramming' aesthetic and you owe it to yourself to check it out as Chris' stuff easily ranks up there with the stuff getting attention right now. I'm not sure how one goes about getting the release but I'm sure Chris (xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx) would help you. peace Nate > This weekend: > . > .... the Electronic Media Organization will be holding a concert to > showcase the talents of six electronic music producers from CMU. > > > Parsec (chris weller) - trance, light techno > Johnny Fingers (john arroyo) - house, experimental > Colongib (chris graves) - kracfivian beats > Soulphistifunktication (john sweeney) - drum 'n' bass > E-Tek (spike katara) - breaks, trance > Dingo (roger ruzanka) - electronica > > > Where and when to support these fine artists: > > Saturday, April 3rd > 7 - 10pm > Connan Room of the University Center > > Admission is $1.oo > > .... > . ===
