Re: [AH] Somewhat off topic - recs for a JBOD for storage with a new mac mini

When I change machines, I take the archive and images of everything on its
drives and put it all onto fresh new drives.

Easy as newer drives are always larger.

Then I remove the old ones, wrap them in anti-static anti-moisture and put them
on the shelf as a long term backup.

Have, on a few very rare occasions, had to go back and get something from a
"bookshelf" drive and find even 30 year old hard disks still keep their data.

This is, of course, in addition to your regular backup images.

Also, those cheap no name enclosures have given me trouble in the past. Some
work perfectly, others are flaky. There is zero quality control so they are what
they are.
