I semi solved the CD problem by getting these huge 200 cd files - the only place I've found in the UK that sells them are at large Tower Records branches. Basically, you put 200 cds in the file and chuck the jewel cases in the attic in a large box. It was expensive at £70, but at the same time its the equivalent of a couple of shelves so you figure!
