You may want to take a trip to Spain for the next SONAR, which
even though it seems to have turned into a media/hipster circus,
still offers some quality stuff. When I was there they screened
videos by Ken Ishii, Jeff Mills, Autechre, Locust, Aphex as well
as Sahko: The Movie and some stuff by the guy in Deep Space Network
(not Moufang, the other one..) all in a big theater with nice sound.
Along with the Designers Republic exposition there was plenty to do
without even going near a DJ or live act. When I realized that the
regional government helped to pay for my opportunity to see Autechre, I
briefly considered a trip to the immigration office for some papers.
Even though the concert was less than spectacular, I still think
about it every once in a while.
