>> 2nd. 5 good punk albums? ummm...The Pop Group, Public Image - Metal >> Box, Joy Division, Associates, Raincoats, Slits, Television, Young >> Marble Giants, Cabaret Voltaire, the Fall, Wire ....A sight more >> interesting than Yes, Genesis and all that other hippie prog crap. > >ahh. okay. i see the disagreement. you didn't mean punk bands, but >punk-era bands. phrased that way - yeah, definitely more than five. > I agree...was reading through that list and kinda scratched my head. But still, there are good punk bands: Fugazi, Operation Ivy, MDC, NoMeansNo, The Jesus Lizard, Babyland, .... Punk gave us (or at least widened the ideals of), as mentioned before, "do it yourself" and "corporate rock sucks". Two ideas that are still pretty strong on this list. Punk also, to an extent, brought an intelligence and social conscience to music. Not sure if that still applies today, as Morrissey once said (and was blasted by the Shamen for doing so) something to the effect of the dumbing down of music by techno. Beats for feet, with no thought for the mind. Does Alec Empire and his whole "Riot Beat" thing go in the face of this "dumb techno"? Hmm...Dunno. Can non-vocal music, on it's own merits (ie--without the luxury of liner notes), still carry social thought? Not for me to worry about. Tonight I focus on the teaching of Mathematics. JJTar...who personally feels prog-rock brought nothing but wankery. Good Riddance! --- Peace Hugs and Unity, Jason J. Tar W. W. J. D? -- DIH! Released on !ooT,eviLnaCskcuD Records.
