My feelings on The Orb: "Adventures" was the first I bought, an amazing
double album. The singles were ok, I prefer the "Huge Ever-growing" ones
to "Little Fluffy Clouds" & "Perpetual Dawn". "Aubrey Mixes" was very
good. "UFOrb" was also amazing, especially the 40 minute "Blue Room". At
this point I was proselitizing the Orb to everyone from my 50 year old
boss to my chiropractor. The "Assassin" 2xCDs was as I recall pretty
outstanding (only heard it once, can someone hook me up w/ a CDR of it?).
I liked the Live album for about a week, now I never listen to it. Seems
like the 1st Peel Session came out about this time, and I liked it. Can't
remember if "Pomme Fritz" or "FFWD" was next, but both were disappointing
(Pomme Fritz because of length & repetition, FFWD because it was so poorly
mixed). Then came "Orbus Terrarum", and the Alex/ Thrash turmoil was
evident. Orblivion is for me a step back in the right direction, though I
skipped buying the singles because I wasn't fully convinced. Orbscure
Trax and UFOff are both very good compilations of alternate mixes that
even an Orb trainspotter will love. I'm very hopeful that the next album
will be stunning.
