John Peel's penchant for happy hardcore cover's: I've just been listening to john peel's show and he finished it (with style) by playing a happy hardcore version of the Friend's theme tune. I laughed long and hard. But the funny thing was that they'd made they effort of rerecording the chorus singing with session singers (at a guess). Why do people make this shit? You might make it for a laugh in your bedroom but you wouldn't put it out. I remember another amusing cover of '99 Red Balloons' he played not long ago. Still, on Thursday, he's got Plaid in session again hasn't he? Also, he played a Surgeon mix of a Mogwai track to be released on IQ (spelt how it was spoken) which was very appealing. Completely beatless. Is other surgeon stuff like this, anyone? I thought he was rather Mills sounding minimal techno but this is more like 'Stars of the Lid' style ambient droning (which sounds far better than that description might conjure). cheers nick
