i attended the /bin show. it was really nice. here's a quick rundown....
it was held at a relatively small coffee house called the nervous
center. the actual performances were downstairs. about 35-50 people sat
intimately in the room. there were real-time [i think] visuals being
made
by nanodust for our viewing pleasure. kranky's pan america and 12k's
shuttle358 played first. shuttle358 being the more experimental of the
two. then tom steinle went on. if you haven't heard tom's work yet, I
STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DO! [www.tomlab.de] he will be well known as a
serious electronic music composer in the near future. his performance
consisted of a few new songs, lasting about 30 minutes...it was in the
vein of 'summer dsp' but even more developed with singing vocal snips
reminding me of Wunder. while tom combines backwards tones and
oval'esque clicks, he does it in such an original way that it is
difficult to describe. [even as a musician myself].. all in all - a
great show. thanks to mike javor for staring the /bin series. it is
proving to be a great outlet for important music to be heard.
