D'oh!! Found this in rec.music.ambient - like wot? Now all we need is for someone to make a record called "Lempel Ziv". Or "Lentil Sieve". I know which I prefer. Jeremy. ___________ I defined the term "chiastic slide" in a computer science paper which has been accepted for the IEEE Data Compression Conference 1999 (see www.cs.brandeis.edu/~dcc/) and will be published in the proceedings, so you could say that it now has an official scientific use. According to Sean Booth it should mean "something changeable, movable and making numbers, circuits and shapes crossed". Well, at least my use of it is for making numbers crossed. The paper is available for download at www.cs.lth.se/~jesper/dcc99.pdf .
