For immediate release: Mixmaster Mike (of Invisibl Skratch Piklz) signs solo deal with Asphodel Records; Bay Area turntablist also joins forces with Beastie Boys for CD and tour Mixmaster Mike, aka "Serial Wax Killer" (and member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz) has recently signed a solo recording deal with Asphodel Records. He has also joined forces with the Beastie Boys, recording with them on their new record, and joining them on their upcoming tours of America and Europe. Mixmaster Mike is a widely renowned turntablist with a reputation that spans the globe. Along with his long-time tag-team partner DJ Q-Bert and the rest of the Piklz, Mike has been developing turntable manipulation into an abstract form of Scratch Music. Breaking the musical elements of hip-hop down to its purest raw format, Mike rattles these foundations beyond their old-school roots, creating an entirely new sound -- which some say is uniquely tied to the Bay Area -- in the process. Mike is currently putting the finishing touches on his solo debut, Anti Theft Device, (released July 21 on Asphodel), and will embark for a full summer of touring with the Beastie Boys in June. His debut Asphodel 12" Atmosfear is now avialable.
