Went outside today and picked up the DJ Disk, DJ Faust, O'Rouke's
Bad Timing and FM Einheit's Prometheus - Lear.

Have to back up the above positive review of DJ Disk. The review is
right on. Not nearly as much hip-hop / funky beats as its much more
a sound collage of sounds / scratches and wacked cut-ups. If Negativland
were a collection of hip-hop DJs and didn't have a 'target' in mind,
they might just come up with something like this. If you're expecting
a Coldcut, DJ Food, or even Mix Master Mike like release, buyer beware.
This blows them all out of the water on the experimental scale.

Intitial thoughts on the DJ Faust which someone (Rodney?) recommended
follow suit (or perhaps the DJ Disk did, as the DJ Faust came first).
More mixed up, scratched up, seemingly patched together collages of
sound which are connected by scattered hip-hop beats. Excellent material.
Again, buyer beware.

Both these releases remind me much more of the Shortkut vs Cut Chemist
release on Future Primative than anything else. There were bits throughout
that release which were completely unlistenable to avid hip-hop fans
(I work with a number of people who were raised on hip-hop/rap/electro
and they find the experimentation with the turntable to be complete shit...
oh well...)

Haven't heard the O'Rourke or FM Einheit yet, although I'm dying to
hear both... maybe a word or two about them to follow (although both
releases have been out for a while and the FM Einheit might not be
of interest here)
