(idm) REVIEW: L-Fudge "Liquid" . .

        apologies to those whom hip-hop
doesn't appeal to their idea of IDM, but
it does to me, and I know it does to some
others here as well. .

L-Fudge - "Liquid" b/w Kweli - "Manifesto"
(Rawkus)

Again, some nice cover art on this
single showcasing a lot of underground
talent.

L-Fudge's style isn't as laid back as
Mos Def, but it's still spot on. I think this
single might be his debut, and he shows off
his abundant talent on "Liquid".
"Show Me Your Gratitude" has a
chirpy, flute-y type background, reminiscent
of an old show-tune or something, with the
MC'ing in the foreground. I guess it fits
alright, but it's pretty unexpected.
The flip is w/ Kweli (half of
Blackstar, with Mos Def), Shabeem
Sahdeeq, Mike Zoot and Skam (not the
Manc. one). The opening reminds me of
stuff from, of all labels, Waveform, the
ambient dub label of past. It has just a
warm, ethereal synth backing, with the crop
of MC's dropping intelligent lyrics all over.
You heard that song "How Come" by Wyclef
and Canibus? "What If" puts it to shame.
The flow is a little bit like some Wu-Tang,
and hits on abortion, r-rated movies, and
cannibalism in the same sentence. Some
dope hip-hop.

Again, check Sandbox for *.ra and ordering
info. . .
