When there is 'denial' there is an indication of a trance(1), and
often the content of the denial is also part of the loop(1) of a trance(1).
Denial says: it is not me, I(2) am not that(1). This in itself indicates
that the ego(2) is referencing from a dissociated trance(2) which is making
a comment about the behavior or belief of ego(1).

Applying trance theory to denial only produces some indications of the
existence of trance and some of the structure, but really gives no information
about the loops which are creating these trances. The disabled cognitive
functions from these trance form often have important pain relieving effects.

This structure of trance where there is denial is indicative of an
addictive form of trance, according to trance theory. It is present in all
kinds of behaviors, including drug and alcohol addictions, religious addictions,
cults, sex and love addiction, performance and behavior addictions. They can
all be considered to be forms of trance and therefore it is possible to apply
trance theory.

I suspect that one way to therapeutically use trance theory in these cases
is to attempt to go through the actual loop with the client, but one loop at
a time. If one loop can be loosened, other loops will change to compensate.
This implies that the client may get temporarily worse or better. As soon as
there is any change, then go for the other loops, because this is an indication
that the dissociated trance planes are breaking down. Support is also
critical.
