along this vein -- someone mentioned they were using their stereo amp. you really should find someone with good a/d equipment like a gina or something, but if you have to use the line in on a consumer card, make sure you run a line-level input into the line-in, as opposed to using the headphone out on a stereo amp or something or using mic in. you'll have a less distored signal which will make for better normalization, and also less hiss (although a -40 or -30db noise floor is hardly noiseless ;p) -sean
