Chicago-October 1999-- In an effort to aid victims of Taiwan's recent earthquake, Chicago's Mactra has released the CD Mirrored Marshes. All artist revenues will go to the Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund, administered by Taiwan's International Commercial Bank of China and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago. At press time, it was uncertain whether MP3.COM would also contribute its share of the profits to the fund. The CD costs eight dollars and contains both normal audio tracks and MP3 files. It can be obtained at http://www.mp3.com/mactra. Donations can also be made directly to the fund: Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund The International Commercial Bank of China Chicago Branch 2 N. LaSalle St., Suite 1803 Chicago, IL 60602 About Mactra Mactra (http://mactra.home.mindspring.com) is the latest project for musician Mack Hagood. The music travels between ambient and hyper, sublime and ridiculous, east and west--all within a single song. Samples of Chinese opera, Balinese gamelan, animal sounds and field recordings are mixed with orchestral arrangements, organ, surfy guitar, infectious beats and hypnotic ambient passages to create "narrative" instrumentals. A New Orleans native, much of Hagood's sound developed during the four years he lived in Taiwan, absorbing folk operas, temple puppet shows, funeral parades, Chinese classical music, Canto-pop and the island's emerging Noise scene.
