DADA Presents
Crosswire: Community Through Art, Architecture and
Music
In Conjunction with Green Galactic
In Downtown Los Angeles
On Saturday, April 17th 8:00pm - 1:00am

Los Angeles, CA - Digital art and sound will converge
at Crosswire: Community Through Art, Architecture and
Music, a multi-media event to benefit non-profit
community builder and art promoter DADA (Downtown Arts
Development Association) on Saturday, April 17th from
8:00pm to 1:00am. DADA is combining efforts with
electronic culture promoters Green Galactic to produce
this unique and perhaps ongoing digital experience.
The all ages benefit will take place at the San
Fernando Building, donated by Gilmore Associates, at
400 Main Street at the corner of 4th
Street in downtown Los Angeles.

"Integrating electronic culture with existing art
communities forges a path to hybrids of style, culture
and new artforms," explains Amber Pierson of DADA.
"We are excited to collaborate with Green Galactic who
recently worked with the Getty Center on their "Sounds
of LA" series which brought
"Vinyl Symphonics", an event designed to explore the
sound world of turntablism." Among the various
projects DADA is responsible for is the annual
"Downtown Lives!" non-juried, all-inclusive
exhibition, drawing over ten thousand spectators and
up to 500 artists.

The multimedia world is pioneering the physical move
to downtown Los Angeles in cooperation with developers
and property owners such as Tom Gilmore, David Damus
and Cheryl Wilson, demonstrating bold
moves to reclaim historic buildings as viable parts of
the city and lending space to represent future
enterprising communions.

The San Fernando Building has three large ground-level
spaces that the Crosswire event will transform into a
bar/lounge area, an ambient gallery
and the main music room. The musical guests for the
evening will include hip-hop luminary Divine Styler,
LA's techno original John Tejada and the rare US/1st
time LA appearance by Detroit techno legend Anthony
"Shake" Shakir. This diverse line-up represents a
multi-cultural/multi-genre approach for this unique
evening's eclectic mix of digital media and sound.

Brooklyn born; LA-based artist Divine Styler came out
with his debut album Word Power in '89 on Ice T's
Rhyme Syndicate Records. It included the hit "Ain't
Sayin' Nothin'" which went on to become a classic, and
is still played throughout the world. He then turned
alternative for his next album Spiral Walls Containing
Autumns of Light in '91, showing off his
Hendrix-influenced psychedelic guitar style. Now with
his third album Word Power 2 - Directrix he fuses both
styles. The new album is out on his own record label
DTX Records. Divine is scheduled to go on at 9:30pm.
Please arrive early to catch this rare live appearance
with his 5-piece band.

With over 40 releases to date, for respected techno
labels throughout the world, John Tejada has proven to
be one of techno's newest and most significant
producers. He runs his own label, Palette Recordings
and along with Anthony "Shake" Shakir, also records
for the Detroit-based 7th City Records. John will DJ
from 10:30pm to 11:30pm.

Anthony "Shake" Shakir is one of the original crew of
techno producers from Detroit. He was one of the
featured artists on the first ever techno compilation,
Techno: The New Dance Sound Of Detroit
on Ten/Virgin in '88. He also co-wrote the Octave One
classic, "I Believe" on Transmat Records. He has
recorded for many other labels including Metroplex,
7th City, KMS and Peacefrog. Shakir has also produced
local Detroit hip hop acts such as Bombshell, Scarelly
Moe, Klout and most recently co-produced the new Urban
Tribe album for Mo Wax. He has also remixed many
artist's music including
Inner City and the Belgium techno pop band Telex.
Shake also has a track on the Detroit: Beyond The
Third Wave compilation on Astralwerks. He runs his
own label Frictional which he started with Claude
Young. A wicked DJ, he taught Claude just about
everything he knows. Shake will conclude the evening
from 11:30pm - 1:00am.

In the ambient gallery, composer Frank Rothkamm
supplies sound sculptures for the evening. Seated on a
pedestal accompanied by an iMac, Frank Rothkamm
will unveil his theory of Supermodernism. Rothkamm is
an internationally known artist, contributing to the
furthering of artistic movements in Germany,
Vancouver, San Francisco, New York, and now Los
Angeles. Frank has released 15 albums and musical
compositions for such labels as Hardkiss, 21st
Circuitry, and Knitting Factory Records, as well as
releasing material on his own label, Flux Records.
Additionally, he has written numerous soundtracks for
3D projection commercials for the likes of Lucasfilms,
Phillips, and Levi Strauss. Recently Rothkamm
introduced to the world Iform, a new computer language
that enables musical composition to take place on the
web. Combining his extensive multimedia experience,
Rothkamm is helping to define a new paradigm of art
called Supermodernism.

Headlining the visual enrichments for the evening is
Etherealist artist and "Illustrators of the Future"
award recipient, Frank Savino. Due to severe visual
impairment following his Vietnam War military service,
Savino works entirely within a digital environment.
Using light in place of pigment, chrome and flesh are
depicted in detailed accuracy engaging if not
engulfing the viewer into the alternate universe
revolving in Frank's mind. In addition to his fine
art series, Savino's original art and prop designs
have graced over 30 Hollywood blockbuster films
including Batman and Robin, Contact, Lost World, Men
In Black and Titanic.

Other participating artists include muralists Pat
Millius and Jeremy Kunckle, graffiti artist Ian
"Sonik" Quezadea, digital art by Sherry Mayo and David
Barnoff and a Sonopticon exhibition by FAR
(Foundation For Art Resources).

Sound for the evening has been generously donated by
Astro Sound who is currently celebrating their 25th
anniversary of providing sound for various events
throughout Southern California.
